Hey,

Just wanted tell you why I've been so inactive lately. It's partially because school is busy, but mostly because my beloved drawing tablet, Um, has stopped working as of late. I still have a few things to try, but we'll see, there's always Hanukkah... It may be a driver problem or a cord problem, but all signs point to something being wrong with the tablet. Sigh. I'm going to try to get a few more Art Breakdown videos on my youtube channel though...

Thanks Guys.

My latest piece, In the Jungle, is part of something called The Art Assignment, which is a youtube channel where, every few weeks, a new artist appears on the show and gives the viewer an assignment. This one is called "desktop monument" and is about looking at an image of somewhere you have never been, and translating it in to an ornament for your desk - as follows -

In the Jungle by QuartzComposer
Fig 1 - Front view of the stump

I actually made this piece just days before the newest Art Assignment video came out, but did it with almost the exact same intentions. This is a depiction of the jungle, not based on any particular image, but the biome as a whole. The jungle, to me, is over-saturated and extreme, with plants and animals so alien they look not like that of the earth. This piece was made out of liquid plaster of paris and was constructed on a piece of cardboard with a measuring spoon, kind of ghetto, I know. I originally didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I knew after seeing the white base, I saw that the smooth places are like the bark of the tree, painted brown and burnt umber, with tinges of yellow ochre. The textured and flowing areas are plants, hanging from the stump, of deep hunter green with yellow, to an almost blue or teal color. I have been to the rainforest once as a small child in Costa Rica and remember only small pieces, and this piece is a reflection of my fragmented memories and my general ideas of what the rainforest or jungle is.

I love the way it came out, and the paint job well exceeded my expectations. I'm specializing in sculpture at my high school and have been enjoying it immensely. I picked up 4lbs of this plaster and found an interesting way to use it. I hope to create more pieces in this vain exemplifying the ocean, desert, and mountains, as well as others, as I think of them. For now, this guy sits on my desk, an homage to the wild places in this world. This was an awesome assignment and I can't wait to see other's takes on it!

MobilePants may be on of my favorite artists on DeviantArt. She an amazing all-around artist, but her series, The Tea Spirits are shockingly beautiful. She did one for every month in 2013 and then some.

Here are some examples -

They are all exceptionally beautiful, and guess what - She's doing more!

She is holding a kickstarter to have her new Tea Spirit 2015 calendars printed with 12 all new drawings.

www.kickstarter.com/projects/6…

For other tea lovers (like me) She's collaborating with a tea company to produce special teas corresponding to her images, and you can order those too!

I took a screenshot of an example of the calendar, and it's absolutely beautiful:

The calendar is only $25, which seams like a massive steal, as you are getting 12 beautiful prints, basically, and a calendar, in case, you know, you want to know what day it is. It's a kickstarter, so it will only get funded if it reaches it's goal.

I usually like to show a variety of things in my art features, but I really want this to succede because :iconmobilepants:'s artwork is simply amazing.

Hi. I feel like I haven't done anything here for like weeks, but that's what happens when school starts. I really need to actually pencil in time every weeks for art just like I would for a ballet class or homework time, because I was supposed to have a video up last last friday, and that's not even finished. Anyway, here's really what I came here for... My mom's been working in my school's rummage depot, where they keep a ton of donated items to sell in their huge garage sale in the spring. They donate the stuff that's not right for their sale to charity. They found a huge box of Plaster of Paris and didn't know what to do with it, because they didn't think they could donate it. You can see what comes next: My mom knows that i'm taking sculpture as my art this year and assumes I'll have tons of ideas of what to use a ton of powdered plaster for... I don't. The problem is that I have no way to really make negative molds. I mean, I could, but I would have to be really set on the idea I'm doing to put that much work into making a crappy mold out like cardboard and plastic. So this is where you come in... If you have any ideas, mold making, actual things to make, ANYTHING, I'd love to hear them.
